Political gathering at BTS Skywalk near MBK Mall, 22 Aug 6pm

Event:  U.S. Embassy Bangkok informs U.S. citizens of a planned political gathering at the BTS Skywalk near the MBK Shopping Center in Bangkok today, Saturday, August 22, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. 

 Location: Bangkok, Thailand MBK BTS Station Skywalk

Reports indicate the gathering could involve a sizable crowd of participants.  The Royal Thai Police plan to deploy officers in connection with the event.  Plan ahead for the possibility of traffic and other potential disruptions in downtown Bangkok. 

 

Although violence is not expected, even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  Avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.

    Monitor local media and our Embassy website for updates, and check your email for further alerts;
    Avoid demonstrations and large gatherings;
    Review personal security plans;
    Remain aware of surroundings;
    Follow the instructions of local authorities.
