Khon Kaen Orders Restrictive Measures for Covid-19
« on: March 23, 2020, 10:54:21 AM »
Khon Kaen-Provincial Governor announcing measures in Bangkok and suburbs apply to KK - begins March 23-Apr 12, preventing the spread of the covid-19 virus.Story from:  https://www.77kaoded.com/content/1437526

Translation from Thai Visa website: The governor of Khon Kaen province has issued an order for a mass shutdown in the north eastern province similar to that being experienced in Bangkok.

Thaivisa notes that it would be easier to report what is staying open than what is closing.

Somsak Jantrakul's order to run from today until April 12th will see restaurants, malls, the entertainment industry in all forms, theme parks, swimming pools, theaters and golf all cancelled for at least the next few weeks in a bid to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Top of a list of 28 items were

-restaurants and places serving drinks.
-Food can only be sold for take away and hotel restaurants can only serve food to guests.
-Malls are to shut with only supermarket and pharmacy sections to remain open.
-Restaurants in malls can only be used for takeaway.
-Eating areas next to convenience stores are shut as are restaurants in supermarkets.
-Markets of all descriptions are shut - only fresh and dried food and items for the preparation of food can be sold for
consumption off the premises. Items for essential daily living can continue to be sold.

-Among other places closed are the following:

-Beauty parlors,
-body treatments,
-skating and rollerblading,
-theme parks,
-ten pin bowling,
-amusement arcades,
-computer games shops,
-golf courses and driving ranges,
-amulet shops,
-anything to do with cock fighting,
-all educational establishments,
-beauty clinics,
-spas,
-massage,
-bath houses,
-soapy massage,
-movie theaters,
-"sathan borikan" or places like bars and places of prostitution,
-sports stadia and other sports facilities,
-karaoke bars,
-billiards and snooker halls,
-boxing of all description,
-fishing and shrimping facilities.

Meanwhile, a meeting was told that the province must prepare for the return of possibly thousands of workers fleeing the shutdown in Bangkok.|

Places like bus stations and the airport will have strict screening measures in place amid fears that the virus could be spread by returnees.

Today we went to Makro and there were a reasonable amount of people there, there was no security handing out the cards on the arrival gate but when you collected your dirty trolley and went inside there were 2 security guards checking your temperature. There was no shortage of products and there appeared no panic buying but the ridiculous thing was that in the pots and pans section they had the tape closing off the side of the aisle where the pots and pans were plus all the electrical appliances were closed off but we could but plastic bags to use in the freezer. So if you have burnt the bottom out of your cooking pot then you cannot buy a new one of if your electric kettle stops working then you cannot replace it, but you can go home and buy them through Lazada and have them delivered from Bangkok. To me not being able to replace any broken or burnt out cooking appliance is stupidity first class. Fair enough not being able to buy washing machines , fridges, TV's but not being able to buy cooking utensils

Tks, Avvocoto.

Here's the text

BANGKOK – Thailand will invoke emergency decree on Thursday (March 26) to control the coronavirus outbreak as cases have soared to 827, said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday.

The emergency decree will pave the way for government orders such as imposing curfews, prohibiting travels and evacuations. No details have yet been given to what the order will entail.

“The order to invoke all the laws will be by the Prime Minister. The Covid Centre will be upgraded to the Covid Emergency Centre,” Mr Prayut told a press briefing at Government House after the weekly cabinet meeting.

“We’re asking for your cooperation not to return to your home towns,” he added, referring to the mass exodus of migrant workers from Bangkok last week after various businesses in the capital and five adjacent provinces were ordered shut.

Thailand reported a spike in Covid-19 cases since last week - with 106 new cases on Tuesday (March 24). Many infections emerged from outbreaks at boxing rings and nightclubs in Bangkok.

Three more Thai nationals died, according to the Health Ministry on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to four.

he has told everyone that they have until March 26 to get out of Bangkok and get home to your village instead of implementing the state of emergency immediately and stopping them from returning to their home villages. This action is not going to stop or even slow the spread of this virus. The Thais will now be looking at getting out of Bangkok in the quickest means that they can and possibly some of them will take the virus with them.

“We’re asking for your cooperation not to return to your home towns,”...
"he has told everyone that they have until March 26 to get out of Bangkok and get home to your village"...

Two differing opinions.
