Tramline in Khon Kaen
« on: February 10, 2020, 07:10:58 PM »
Its gone very quiet regarding the new tram system in our fair city.  Has anybody noticed any works or seen any announcements?

Lung Bing, are you talking about the elevated tracks built above the existing tracks ... or is the tramline something different?

I didn't realise they were different.  In which case what is happening to both systems?

Maybe I am confused.  Probably.  I thought someone said that the elevated platform would replace existing tracks and run the same trains as now run.  But I have not heard anything in ages.  Anyone know anything?

I remember talk about a light rail that was going to link things like the bus terminal and the city centre and around the government offices and the university but that was a couple of years ago and I have not heard anything about it for a long time now

Go to Google and check.  Here is an article from the Bangkok Post over a year  and a half ago.

The last article was published in April of 2019.

It is going to be interesting because according to the Wikipedia link I found this first section is supposed to commence operation along Mittraphap Road in 2022. It reports that the first section will run from Samran in the north down along Mittraphap Road to Tha Phra in the south and include 16 stations. With a further 4 routes to follow.
This is the Wikipedia link.
