Beautiful place ... I practically lived there, while doing work for ACP (Panama Canal Authority). Still have a lot of friends there. If I wasn't retired here, I'd be there.

$1,000 per month pension gets you a retirement visa (at any age as long as you can demonstrate guaranteed income-for-life), but if  you buy a house (that is buy a house as in buy a house), you only need $750.  All kinds of other incentives and benefits from what I have read. I have also read that it is not cost of living is not quite the bargain it was 10 or 20 years ago.  Better infrastructure and modern amenities than Costa Rica. Thye use the US$ and the level of English is better than other countries in the region due to the  U.S. operation of the Panama Canal Zone for decades until Jimmy C. gave it back because he was such a swell guy!
