Open discussion / Re: Notary public
« on: July 15, 2017, 09:52:52 AM »

  Thanks for the replies,

I'm signing our house over to our daughter in the US and just requires a simple, notarized signature. Would be nothing if I was in the states, but, not so simple while living here.

First, because the post office has a habit of stealing my mail, daughter will have to send the document by fed-ex. Last time she sent my credit card by fed-ex, it was $118. !  Sending it back isn't as bad, EMS about 1,000 bt.

The notary part is more complicated. I know the US Embassy and the outreach notarize documents for $50 per seal. The document won't be here in time for the outreach in Udon and the next one in KK isn't until Nov.  I can go to Bangkok. That's not a big deal, I haven't been in years and wouldn't mind seeing how things have changed. One problem there is, the document may need to be witnessed and the Embassy says thier employees can't serve as witnesses. I suppose I might be able to get another American there to do me a favor and be a witness, but if not, it's a wasted trip!

Soooo, I'll probably wait until the outreach comes to KK. It will save me a trip and the wife can be the witness.

Next week I'll go into town and look for the law office Terry mentioned. By the way, where is the Army hospital?

 Thanks again, Henry

I'm in need of a notary public for a legal document from the US.

The document won't be here in time for me to go to the embassy outreach in Udon and the next outreach here in KK, isn't until Nov.

Is there such a thing as a notary public in KK and if so, would it be accepted in the US?

Open discussion / Slow laptop
« on: July 09, 2017, 08:02:44 AM »

About a week ago, my laptop started working slow. Google said, if I reset it, it will wipe everything out and it will be like it was when new.

I did the reset and it re-installed Windows 10, but now it's working 10x slower!

What did I do wrong and how can I fix it?

Where to find . . . / Fieldglasses
« on: July 08, 2017, 08:16:32 AM »

Where can I buy some fieldglasses (binoculars), in KK?

The only ones I've seen are on the ground floor of Big C and those are terrible.

They say the medical certificate is only needed for the first license. I suppose their reasoning is, if you're healthy now, you probably will be the rest of your life.

I always bring a certificate with me just in case. You never know what to expect. The first time, a actually saw a doctor. He just asked me if there was anything wrong with me. I said no and he signed the cert. Now, I just get a presigned cert. from the local clinic. 50 bht.

You will see the signs on the left hand side as you drive along.

The second one is just before you get to the end of the road and have to turn right to get to the terminal building. That one I know will transport you to the terminal.

There are two secure parking lots on the airport road.

They charge Bt 100 per day.

Where to find . . . / Re: Bees
« on: April 10, 2017, 09:53:24 AM »

I've never bought any bees and we've always had plenty around.

Swarms are coming and going all the time. They seem to like the taller bourganvilla, but will build thier hives in bamboo, fruit trees, in the roof space of the house and sala, even in low bushes.

Just wait awhile and I'll bet you will have some visitors soon.

Well Rex, if you must know, and I guess you must. It did contain nudity.

I went to India for medical treatment. I got a bad case of crabs!

Actually, I went for prostate laser surgery. Over the last 10 years, the faucet has slowly been turning off and it was just a matter of time till the water works came to a halt. I heard about a good surgeon here in Delhi and the price was right, so here I am.

It's only been 4 days, but it seems the surgery was a success.

Well, my first time at Suvvanabumi was a breeze. I didnt know if 2 hours was enough to catch my connecting international flight.

I entered the terminal and had my boarding pass within 10 minutes! Had plenty of time to look around.

When I went through passport control, the immigration officer was a farang who spoke perfect Thai and no English!

 Frank,

Does the bank fill out who the draft is payable to, or do you?

Almost time for my flight to bkk.

When I get off the plane at Suvvanabumi, are there signs to direct me to the 4th level? Then after check-in, I go to passport control on the 5th level?

 Sounds like a big airport.

  Rex,

Sorry to hear about the situation you're in. Losing a beloved pet can be just as traumatic as losing a friend or family member.

I once asked a monk about putting a suffering animal out of it's misery. I said I know Buddhism says we shouldnt kill, but it also says we should practice compassion. He said compassion is a state of consiousness we have on the inside and he pointed to his heart. He said we can have compassion for the animal but should never kill it. I understood his explanation, but it doesnt help much when dealing with a dying loved one.

If it's any consolation, from what I've heard, dying of kidney failure is not a bad way to go. I believe when the kidneys fail, the other organs shut down and this usually happens while you are asleep.

I think it's difficult to find a vet that will euthanize, but I hear they are out there.
