Discuss Health & Wellness / Possible New Medical Insurance Requirements
« on: February 21, 2019, 07:19:40 AM »
I received this from the American Legion, Ubon Ratchathani. This could really mess up some retirees plans for the future.

Subject: New health coverage proposals for foreigners in Thailand

New move could be bad news for many middle aged foreigners and particularly elderly individuals who have been unable to get health insurance coverage before. Anecdotal evidence suggests that many are in his category with a range of health conditions including diabetes, heart complaints and even cancer. While the proposal has yet to be fully clarified and presented to the Thai cabinet, the concerns raised will be immediate . . . [Continue reading =>]

Will a pool table even fit in that place?

Where to find . . . / Cardboard Moving Boxes
« on: April 24, 2018, 11:22:08 AM »
Does anyone know where I can get large cardboard boxes for moving? I am willing to purchase them. I am not looking to go to supermarkets and such trying to scavenge some boxes. I am looking for clean boxes in various sizes if possible.
A place that sells moving supplies would be good.

Any help would be appreciated.

Discuss Shopping / Stainless Steel Fabricator
« on: April 08, 2018, 09:10:07 AM »
I am looking for a stainless steel food prep table. Has anyone done any business with one of the stainless shops that I see around town? I see they do a lot of work making racks for pickup trucks and i'm not sure if they do anything like a food prep table.

The problem I am having is any tables that I find are too short. (too low to the floor)

Also, if I order one through let's say, Amazon. The shipping cost are about 3 times the cost of the item. Not to mention what customs will charge me. If anyone knows where to purchase one in KKC that would be great. But, I am also open to having one made.

Discuss Shopping / IKEA Delivery to Khon Kaen.
« on: March 29, 2018, 02:57:29 PM »
Has anyone ever purchased something from IKEA and had it delivered to Khon Kaen. They have something I would like to purchase but I am confused by their shipping policy and rates.
I don't want to pay too much for the item because the shipping rate is so high.

 Any feedback would be appreciated.

Open discussion / Rubbish Drop Off
« on: March 13, 2018, 08:34:19 AM »
Does anyone know if there is an area, or town dump in Khon Kaen where I can bring a load of trash to drop off?  Our normal trash pickup is on Mondays,
which they never seem to show up for and Thursdays.
Sometimes I have more than I want to leave out in the street or I want to drop it off before leaving town.

Anyway, is there such a place?

If yes, please tell me where.

Services for the home / Sofa Upholstery
« on: January 15, 2018, 11:59:47 AM »
Does anyone know of a good place to get a sofa upholstered? Have one that I really like with double reclining seating.
Preferably a place that will pick up, since it is rather large and heavy.

Visas, et al / What to show Thai Immigration when living in wife's house
« on: January 03, 2018, 07:10:46 AM »
For those of you that may have your own homes in Thailand, and by that I mean your wife's house.  I say this because of Thai law permitting only Thai citizens from owning land.
What is it, that you show Thai immigration when  doing your extension of stay?
Do you have a lease from your wife? Or, do you have a usufruct?
We are considering building a house and I was curious as the best way to go.

Open discussion / Holiday Driving
« on: December 26, 2017, 07:57:04 AM »
Something I am not looking forward to. But, it has to be done.
The wife and I are driving to Roi et, tomorrow. I always made it a point not to drive during the holiday season. The roads are dangerous enough the rest of the year. But, we must meet with the Land Office people in Phon Thong, Roi et. They are surveying  the wifes land on the 28th so that they can issue her a chanote.
Apparently she has to be there.  Not sure what is the best time of day to travel during this time of year to miss the idiot drivers coming from BKK to the villages. I did tell the wife. As soon as they are done, we are heading home to the safety of our house and not going anywhere until at least the 3rd of January. :-\

Deep Thoughts (Hehehe . . .) / Is Khon Kaen the dirtiest city in Isaan?
« on: October 29, 2017, 10:01:47 AM »
Is it just me or is Khon Kaen a really dirty place? I have traveled to almost every city in Isaan and have found Khon Kaen to be the filthiest.  Go around any of the lakes in the city and there is nothing but rubbish and bottles and every kind of plastic thing on the ground.
Upon entering from any other province, you can tell you have crossed the line into Khon Kaen just by the rubbish on the ground.
I watched the other day a pickup truck driver dumping out a load of trash on the side of the road on the ring road. Of course, nobody says anything.
In my area of Mueang Kao, it has to be the worse.  Just came back from Sakon Nakhon a couple of days ago. What an amazing city. Absolutely spotless. Hardly find a piece of paper on the ground. Even around the market area. When we got back to Khon Kaen, I felt I needed to take a shower after driving through town.

Stuff wanted / Looking for VHS Tape Player
« on: October 13, 2017, 09:59:04 AM »
I need a VHS Player to copy some old VHS tapes to my computer. My machine went  Tits up. Of course, no place fixes them anymore. So, if you have a working VHS tape player that is in good working condition and willing to part with it. Please let me know.  I'm sure we can come to some agreement.

Services for the home / Weed and Vegetation Killer
« on: October 03, 2017, 04:08:30 PM »
Anyone know where I can get some decent Weed or Vegetation Killer. I need it for my driveway. Weeds and grass are growing between the cracks in the tile. It is becoming rather unsightly.
I would not be opposed to making some homemade stuff. If anyone has a good recipe, I might be game to trying it. As long as I don't have to go buy a lot of things that I normally would not have any use for.

  Please advise.

Alerts and News about the Region and the World / UBER COMES TO KHON KAEN

I hope this works out well. Used them extensively in the States. Good service
One thing I didn't happen to notice though. Are the drivers going to be English speaking?  Not completely necessary but would be nice.

Open discussion / Dash Cams for Insurance Discounts
« on: August 22, 2017, 10:44:44 AM »
The Thai government put out a press release a while back that insurance companies will be giving a discount on auto insurance for those with a dash cam.

Well, yesterday I renewed my insurance for another year and asked about the discount since I have a dash cam. The agent told me that this was only for new cars. I explained that there was nothing in the release that stated such a thing. He then called the company in BKK and he was assured that it was only for new cars or trucks.
Needless to say, this kind of pi@sed me off. But, I kept my cool and paid what the normal annual cost was. When all was said and done. I told the agent. If you want to see what is on my dash cam, so you don't have to pay anything in an accident that is not my fault. It is going to cost you. Or you can just pay what ever the cost will be. I have the best insurance I can purchase for my vehicle, so I am covered pretty well. So, I am not too worried.
I still like the dash cam, just in case I end up in court and need to prove my innocence.
So, just letting you know that if you are in the market for a dash cam. Buy it for your own piece of mind. Because, unless you are purchasing a new car. There will be no discount. >:(
