Rumor on Thaivisa is they may be doing away with the outreach visits because most of what they do is the visa income letters. I couldn't find any info about it, but they normally would be around about now.

Where to find . . . / Re: Looking for a printer service

 Thanks for the replies.

I dont know about memory sticks or other technical stuff. I'm looking for a place like I used to go, where I can use their computer and they can print out documents that I've received in an email.

Now and then I need to print out something. The internet shop I used to use has closed. Anyone know a shop in KK with a printer, and possibly a scanner?

I usually go about a month after my license expires and I'm good for 6 years. I've heard you have 1 year after expiation to renew.

Thanks for the replies. Good info for when I'm ready for a new machine. For now, the laptop works ok. It's like an old car. Lots of quirks that only the owner knows about and can operate.

A little over 4 years ago, I bought my first laptop. It didn't come with windows, so they sent me to a shop to buy a Windows 8 disc, and they installed it for me. A couple of years later they did the free upgrade to Windows 10 for me.

Google says a laptop is good for 3-5 years. Mine is acting up lately, so I may need to buy a new one soon.

I would like to know if I buy a new laptop, can I use the windows disc I still have, or transfer Windows from the old laptop to the new one?  ( I'm guessing the answer is no.) Also, is it better to buy a Windows disc and install it, or should I buy a laptop with Windows already installed?

Visas, et al / Re: Is Khon Kaen Immigration moving?
« on: November 23, 2018, 01:33:04 PM »

I did my retirement ext the other day. The guy in front of me did his 90 day and the officer told him next time to go to the new bus station. I did my 90 day also, but he didn't say anything to me about it.

They just remodeled the immigration office and now they are moving,???

My retirement ext went smooth as always. That and my 90 day report made quite a stack of forms and copies! They also had me sign 2 or 3 other forms I had never seen before. I didn't read them, just signed where he told me to.

Open discussion / Re: Change to Deposit Procedure to Bangkok Bank New York

As I mentioned earlier, I've started using my US bank to send SWIFT transfers. I feel better knowing if anything goes wrong, my bank will back me up. I think if anything goes wrong using a transfer service, you might be on your own.

I Googled "Transferwise reviews", and there were enough negative reviews that I didn't want to use their service.

This is just my opinion, I know there are plenty of satisfied Transferwise customers who can't say enough good things about them.

I've also done 14 extensions and never been asked for a tm 30. I never knew anything about it till all the recent jabber on the forums.  I figure if they ever asked me if I had a tm 30, I would say, "Why would I have one of those?". After all, they are for homeowners.

I do have one now and will produce it if asked. Last year when I came back from India, I thought, better to be safe than sorry. It's a ways to immigration, so I went to the local police. I thought I'd also save a few baht as I'd heard immigration was charging for them. It's free at the police station.

Where to find . . . / Re: cctv
« on: October 15, 2018, 01:39:15 PM »

Thanks for the replies. I'm just learning about cctv. I think like most stuff, it seems complicated at first, but doesn't take long to figure it out.

We live in a small village and never had any problems, but lately there have been some burglaries and vandalism in this area. Better to get the cctv now rather than wait till after we get robbed.

I have several weapons stashed around the property and have discussed with the wife what to do in case of a home invasion, but although I've always been able to take care of myself, at my age, I'm not really that confident in myself. Twenty two years in the same house and never a problem. I'm not worried in the least, but better to be prepared.

I think what I want is a system with infrared cameras that are not recording 24 hrs., but turn on by motion detectors. One camera in the front, one in the back.

Sounds like it's not a DIY project?   Also, how much can I expect to pay for a decent system?

Where can I buy a cctv system for home security, in KK ?

After hearing the ach transfers to BB were coming to and end, I started looking around for another way to transfer. I trust my bank and decided to use them and do a swift transfer. My bank doesn't charge a fee and I couldn't see what BB charges were, but the deposit figured out to 32.57 bt to the dollar. I think that is as good as the ach transfers, good enough for me anyway.

Also, the transfer only took 1 day.

I only transfer once or twice a year, so even if my bank charged for the transfers, it wouldn't be bad deal.

The only temples I know of are, Wat Pa Baan Tat in Udon and Wat Pa Nanachat in Ubon. Both very popular with westerners.

Where can I buy a fireproof box. I don't want anything large and I'm not looking for a safe, just something to keep passports, bankbooks, important papers etc, safe from fire.
