Open discussion / Re: Have you used DeeMoney? Know anyone who has?
« on: February 06, 2019, 07:05:32 PM »
Rex, I do not have personal knowledge of the workings of DeeMoney.
But, I am going to open an account the next time I am in Bangkok just to have another form of money transfer in my back pocket.
Never know when I might have to send some money back across the pond the other way.
According to their website it is a one time deal to sign up.

What is needed is for immigration to realize that there are several ways to transfer money to Thailand and not all of them show as an international transfer. It would help if they were to recognize the receipt one gets after making a transfer. Mine show U.S. dollars being withdrawn from my stateside bank and being changed into baht at the receiving end. What other reason would one have to do that? Too much of a gamble making 11 months worth of transfers and then having 1 show as a domestic transfer.

Transferwise only has accounts in Thailand with I believe are 3 banks. Bangkok Bank being the main one.  If you for instance (hypothetically) you send funds to your account at KTB Bank which is not one of Transferwise prefered banks, your funds will probably be routed through Bangkok Bank, Thailand to KTB bank. Which of course because it went to Bangkok Bank first, it became an in country transfer, it will show up as a domestic transfer.
But, if you had an account with Bangkok Bank, Thailand and sent money directly from overseas to your account at Bangkok Bank, Thailand, then it would show up as an international transfer.

Hope I made it clear enough. Not sure which other banks Transferwise uses. But, I have been told there are 3.

You must be sending to a bank that Transferwise does not use.

Newbie Q & A Getting settled in KKC / Re: TransferWise
« on: January 18, 2019, 02:02:34 PM »
It depends. Transferwise works with I think 3 different banks in Thailand. I will use Bangkok Bank as an example, because I know it is one of Transferwise account holders in Thailand.
I use two different banks in Thailand. Bangkok Bank and Krung Thai Bank. Krung Thai Bank is not one of the banks that Transferwise uses so any money that I request to go to Krung Thai Bank from my account in the U.S. will go through another bank, ie, Bangkok Bank. Then to Krung Thai Bank. Because it is going from Bangkok Bank in Thailand to Krung Thai Bank in Thailand. It is shown as a domestic transfer.
If on the other hand, I send funds directly to Bangkok Bank from my U.S. account. There is no middle man "so to speak" and it shows up as a foreign transfer.
Hope that helps a little bit. I am hoping immigration has some lee way on these foreign transactions or banks like Bangkok Bank will have a monopoly. For me SWIFT transfers are just too costly and too confusing.

This might help explain a little bit about Transferwise.

With Transferwise, you can send funds from the U.S. to your Thai bank account. But, you cannot transfer funds from Thailand to your U.S. bank account.  To do that you would have to use a company like DeeMoney.

I also have 3bb and have always had to use a VPN to access Social Security. I also need a VPN to access my account with the VA.

Frank, try and access Homedepot.com without a VPN. I can't.

Visas, et al / Re: Is Khon Kaen Immigration moving?
« on: November 28, 2018, 10:48:42 AM »
Hypothetical :
With some embassies not issuing affidavits of income any longer and maybe more embassies following suit. Maybe Thai Immigration is expecting fewer expats in the coming years.
Possible they are back tracking and thinking about closing some immigration offices in the North East part of the country. The newer ones like Maha Sarakham, Roi et, Chaiyaphum, etc.
They will have to go back to their old immigration office which was Khon Kaen.
Could be a reason to move it to the bus station. People can travel from their hometown bus stations to Khon Kaen and back.
Like I said, just a hypothetical.

It is my understanding they will send it to BKK bank NY. But will not direct deposit it to a bank in Thailand.
Countries Where IDD is Available

DFAS does not send to Thailand.

Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of confirming that the person does in fact have the income? I mean, the whole issue was because the embassy could not confirm anything. Now for 3 months a year the person happens to have 800K baht. The next day after receiving their extension miraculously disappeared.
I'm all for to each his own, but really. What then, was this exercise all about?
