I didn't see that bit but it wouldn't surprise me.

At a lunchtime restaurant today there was a long table with 12 people, one of whom was a farang.

I didn't see a single Thai talk to him the whole time and even when they got the waitress to take a group photo he was excluded.

Obviously I don't know the story but is that really still the extent of integration here?

Wonder.
Billed as an up-lifting and heart-warming movie and it is certainly that in spades.
Great movie, just take a box of tissues with you.

After 14 lessons I still only know snake snake fish fish.

It is far from pig pig or banana banana.

Over to you, Thai speakers.....

Loei is a great area.
The vineyard at Khao Yai also has a very nice Shiraz though the Loei Chenin Blanc was better.

I had big argument once with an American about how you pronounce, "Chang" in English. I am English a speak with a neutral accent but he just would not accept he was speaking with a very strong American accent.

And it bugs me that my niece is being taught that the last 3 letters of the alphabet are x, y and zee (etc etc).

Hat Yai could be an option.

Never had it, nor noticed a bad smell from it.

My current trip is 2.5 months to see if I could live here for longer.
This trip is Bangkok during the week and KK for long weekends with my brother and family.

I have no wife or GF and it is pretty boring during the week as I've seen all the touristy things and there is NOTHING to do at night as I have enough to eat and drink at weekends and don't want any alcohol or much food during the week.

I brought a huge pile of DVDs with me on my laptop but that had a major meltdown in Songkhla last weekend and if I'd lost them I would have gone stir crazy.

I am doing some language classes, 1.5 hour class on Tuesday/Wednesday and Thursday which come in blocks of 20 lessons and are very expensive, nearly 19,000bt for the block of 20.
I am nearly half way through and I know that at the end I won't be able to say much more than normal touristy phrases and nowhere near enough to have a conversation with a Thai person that doesn't speak English. Maybe someone younger could do more.

If I come back it would all be in KK where there would be even less for me to do on a day to day basis, even with family there and at this point in time I'm not sure at all that I could manage much more than 2 or 3 week holidays.

It will become ever more westernised and lose what (little) character it's got.
It's a nice town but I don't think you could ever say it's exciting or full of character at the moment
