TNA reported that Thai Immigration are proposing much stiffer penalties for failing to report foreigners staying at addresses in Thailand.

Laws dating back to 1979 are not sufficient in the modern day especially when it comes to reporting the whereabouts of foreigners. They are considered to be too lenient . . .

For a new passport, I believe I see a stimulating trip to Bangkok in your future! Yippie!  Although, you can also  do it in at the U.S. Consulate in Chiang Mai which might be more pleasant, especially with direct flights KKC Chiang Mai, only 15 minutes from airport to Old Town Chiang Mai. Veggie restaurants all over the place in CM.

As for a notary, I forget if anyone was able to come up with a solution apart from the U.S. Embassy. I hope someone else remembers.

Prowl around on the U.S. Citizens Services (ACS) website and see if you see something I missed

The person I mentioned took his question to KK Imm.  It was not during his extension, but just an inquiry as to what might happen when he extended later.  Still, not something I wanted to hear. However, you are correct. We need a lot more reports of first-hand experiences until a pattern emerges that is somewhat reliable.

Visas, et al / Re: Yet MORE Visa Changes being considered.

It becomes more concerning based on a post on ThaiVisa.com the other day. A guy took a spreadsheet listing his foreign transactions for the past year  to an I/O at KK Imm.  He just wanted to check just to make sure what he would comply when he did his extension later on.  The I/O told him it was not acceptable because deposits for  two of the months were less than B65K even though the the deposits for the entire year totaled more than B800K !!!  Now, this is third-hand info, so take it with a grain of salt.

--
As to your first point, I have decided to keep have a separate bank account specifically for the purpose of showing foreign transactions, and use another account for all my regular business.  At the end of the year, that will leave a minimum of transactions for Imm and the bank to sort through.

It is called Daylight Savings Time or Daylight Time, sometimes Summer Time.

"Spring Forward" (and "Fall Back") are mnemonics to help you remember whether to set your clock one hour ahead or one hour behind.

I wouldn't know, Mudguard. I suppose with modern electronics, they are all pretty much the same. Possibly, safer to stay with the more well-known brands. Are they rated by watts?  Whatever the rating is, get the highest you can afford ....

. . .  And get get the highest your house current can sustain.  We can't run one upstairs because it blows the circuits every time. Have to run a long extension cord to an outlet on the ground floor if we urgently need to vacuum upstairs.

Warning Will Robinson!  Warning!  Warning!  If you plan to have a Thai type person operate the thing, please ration their use.  Everyone one of the people I have had work for me LOVES damn noisy things and would run them 24/7 if I let them!  You have been warned!

User Guide / Any recent problems with Clean Talk error messages?
« on: March 10, 2019, 07:37:02 PM »

I just heard from someone getting posts rejected by Clean Talk error messages like this one =>

"CleanTalk: *** Forbidden. Please enable JavaScript. ***

This is the first I have heard about  in awhile.  I don't know if that is become the incidents have stopped or members are just not talking about it.

In any case, if you are getting these messages, let me know.  However, the Clean Talk error message is very misleading. Some of the other guys have found that the solution is annoying-but-simple:

1. Log out of the forum.
2. Close your browser.
3. Open the browser and froum again.
4. Log in again.

Sorry for any inconvenience. But to be candid, Clean Talk is absolutely necessary to keep the forum from being overrun with spam and malicious content. It does that really well except for the problems with these error messages for a few of the members. Without it, would have to close the forum.

I have been around-and-around about with Clean Talk. They are always very nice and placating, but never come up with a fix or any useful information, unfortunately.  Anyone would would like to try to get something intelligent out of them is welcome to do so => https://cleantalk.org/

Where to find . . . / Re: Baking soda
« on: March 10, 2019, 07:09:54 PM »
I think any of the "big box" stores probably have it.  Not hard to find.  I get mind at Tops Central

BTW, McGarrett makes good stuffs. It is a local brand with local prices masquerading as a falang product.

Don't forget! Clocks in the U.S. will SPRING FORWARD one hour at 2:00 a.m., Sunday 10 March 2019. That means that Bangkok will be 11 hours later than New York.

Where to find . . . / Re: Looking for a printer service
« on: March 04, 2019, 05:26:45 PM »
The ink for printers is more expensive the the printers, and can get very expensive if you use them a lot, especially if you use them for images. And if you only use them occasionally, printers can get fussy sitting around for long periods of time unused.  That  can be very annoying if you are in a hurry to just print one page for an important project and expect it to take 60 seconds but it ends up 20=30  minutes futzing around with the machine trying to coax it into printing.

UPDATE

Assuming anyone is interested, I experimented sticking future board to styrofoam using two substances. The first normal white latex Elmer's type glue.  The second, just a thick coat of the ordinary latex wall paint I will be using to paint the fb.  After 24 hours, surprisingly, the paint stuck as well or better than the glue!  That's good as cheap and much easier to apply.  Pulling the pieces apart, the paint was still a little bit wet, so maybe one week to completely dry. The bond is not going to hold against someone trying to pull it apart, but these partitions are not going  to experience much stress or wear and tear, and I think the bond is plenty good for what we need. Obviously there is nothing magic about Glidden Grabber (gripper?), but maybe using a primer would produce an even better seal than the regular latex.

Never a dull moment in Khonkaenville!
