Jobs Offered / Re: Teacher Position at Primary School
« on: May 27, 2018, 09:03:31 AM »
@Liriano: Yes, Promboon school will need another native English speaker next year.   This is their first Prathom level English Program and, this year, they only have P1 students.  So, they will need an additional NES teacher each year for the next five years (i.e. for grades P2-6)  -Cheers, TS

Jobs Offered / Teacher Position at Primary School
« on: May 19, 2018, 09:48:11 AM »
Promboon School is looking for a native English speaker to teach Prathom one students (6 -7 years old) in their English Program.  The school is located near the RAM hospital in central Khonkaen.  It is a full-time position.  Class size is around 20 students, and there is also a Thai co-teacher for all lessons.  They need to fill the position immediately.  Salary starts at 32K baht/month (negotiable depending on experience).  If you are interested, please send a PM or call 099-641-4169.  Cheers, Trainspotter.

fceligoj:  The name of the company is Mittare.  As I recall, everything at the insured property is covered for damage, loss (including theft), and liability (so that would include privacy walls and other outside structures).  Our annual premium is extremely cheap and it gives us great peace of mind.

Mittare is a great company.  They just paid 16K baht to a customer whose 3-year-old TV was destroyed by an electrical surge during a thunderstorm.  check out this story from today:

Screamer:

We've had our house insured since it was built eight years ago.  It's a comprehensive policy covering the structure, contents and liability.  My wife is an agent for the company.  You can call her for details:  Gigi 099-641-4169.  Cheers, TS

Did you talk to the staff at Homepro?  Not everything they have to offer is on display.  There is a brochure on a stand in the garden area which shows what they can order for you.  TS

Dealing with Thailand government / Re: Online Banking

Fceligoj:

You are correct in that US citizens MUST report all foreign bank accounts in their name to the IRS.  The form is called an FBAR and it can be submitted online.  Within the last few years, Thailand banking institutions have started to comply with an international agreement to report US citizens with financial accounts here.  The IRS is now heavily fining and prosecuting individuals that are failing to comply by not filing an annual FBAR along with the 1040.  If you need advice, feel free to PM me - Cheers, TS

KP: Global stocks flattened cardboard boxes. If you are standing with customer service behind you (at the entrance), go to far end of one of the last aisles on your left (#40 to 42 maybe?).  I seem to recall they have several sizes. I have no idea how much they cost.  Cheers, TS

Dealing with Thailand government / Re: Online Banking
« on: April 23, 2018, 04:52:02 PM »
SM8:

Bangkok Bank exists in two different centuries simultaneously.  Their brick and mortar business is a hundred years in the past.  Since you've been with them for so long, you already know this.  When you go in, there's lots and lots of paperwork which needs to be photocopied, signed and rubber stamped.  The last time I went into the main branch on Srichan road, the staff was still using a DOS based computer operating system.  They probably still do.

However, their online banking system exists in the present century.  It's extremely easy to make transfers between accounts, pay bills, and send or receive money from businesses and other individuals in Thailand.

But, to get the account set up initially, you have to deal with the staff at the branch here in Khonkaen.  Which can be a real pain.  Since you've already applied for online banking, I suggest you call the them a couple days in a row to follow-up, and then go in and politely require them to take some action before you leave.  Make sure that you get the name and phone number of the person you deal with.  Don't let them pawn you off with a number in Bangkok.  They'll try to do that for sure.  Then, begin calling them back after a few days.

As with anything in Thailand, never get publicly angry, because that does not generally produce results.  It's worth the time and effort in the end, so don't give up.  Good luck.
Cheers, TS

Discuss Shopping / Re: Stainless Steel Fabricator

KP:  There is a stainless steel shop on Maliwan road, on the north-west corner of the traffic light before the airport turn-off (heading west from Khonkaen).  Google maps 16.445061, 102.793277

They've done several projects for me, including an oven rack and a replacement grate for my BBQ.  They weren't cheap, but the quality was excellent.  Cheers, TS

Where to find . . . / Re: Where to buy Sweet Sherry
« on: February 16, 2018, 07:33:10 AM »
The Pullman hotel sells imported Harveys Bristol Cream by the glass or bottle, but it is very expensive.  I have never found sherry anywhere else in Khonkaen.  TS
